We installed this driveway with a trench drain at the front of the garage door. Our client had a lot of water penetration through the garage door. We rectified this problem by installing a 72" wide trench drain in front of the garage door. You will notice in the drain in the video is lower than the garage door and the concrete is pitched towards the drain. We use 4000psi concrete in the concrete mix and steel mesh to prevent cracking. We gave this concrete driveway a broom finish for maximum traction in the winter months.
Before
Water would accumulate under the concrete. In the winter months the water expanded and cracked the concrete. A trench drain with a stone driveway base is the remedy for this clients problems.
We installed a concrete extension for this customer. They live in Manayunk and require additional rear parking. We created another parking space to accommodate an additional vehicle. We had to remove the fencing to achieve maximum width.
Concrete Driveways in Philadelphia take a beating. Concrete in Philadelphia expands, contracts and also moves because of the weight of vehicles. Its important to reinforce the concrete with steel or to entrain the concrete with fiber. Thickness should be a minimum of 5".
