Concrete Driveway Philadelphia

I am currently working on the driveway job shown below. The old driveway was severely settling. As a result, water was pooling at the center of the driveway, making it a nightmare in the winter to clear the snow. Also, the driveway was unsightly because of the several cracks.
Unknown to me when I estimated the job, the concrete had wire mesh which added significant time for excavation.  It's difficult to determine if wire mesh is integrated into concrete by looking at the surface however, based upon the level of cracking and settlement on this concrete driveway, I assumed the previous concrete contractors ignored using steel reinforcement. Nonetheless, I will compact and lay reinforcement to this driveway. I plan to never hear a peep from this customer about cracking of his driveway.
I am posting some video and pictures of our progress.  Final media will be posted once the project is complete. Stay tuned.

Concrete Backyard Philadelphia

Concrete backyards can be a challenge in Philadelphia because of access. If the alleyway is not clear then I have to clear the alley to move my material through to replace the backyard.  Some alleys have tree trunks that obstructs the pathway.  An alternative option is to protect the floors in the house and move the material through that way.

The video below is a job we did in South Philly. I had to come through the house on this job.  My challenge also included arranging parking on the narrow street out front.  In addition, there was 2 hour parking and I had to kindly ask the ticketing guy for some leniency. I could have picked up a contractors placard at the parking authority but that would have taken half my day.

However, the job went very well. Most importantly, the customer was satisfied with the finished product. Take a look at the video.

Acid Staining Concrete Floor Philadelphia

Acid staining concrete floors offer an alternative solution to tile or carpet. Acid staining concrete is unique and appealing method to enhance a room. Staining concrete with acid is a process which achieves random results.  However, it's the randomness of the patterns that creates the appeal.
The final result is a marbleized floor which is a conversation piece for guests.

Concrete Patio Philadelphia

Today I installed a concrete patio in Philadelphia with a retaining wall for a steady customer.  I try to build good relationships with my customer's to us as a source of acquiring future work. These customers magically call when business is slow.  Ok, back to the patio.  My customer, Donna, had a dirt and vine filled sloped front yard that was difficult for her to maintain. Her new front yard is now leveled with new concrete, where she can place a bbq grill, table and chairs.  Stay tuned to see the final look.

Tree roots lifting walkway

Trees are great for shade but not for concrete walkways. Customers are always concerned about killing the tree or causing the tree to become unstable when we grind the roots. In 30 years of  operating my business I have never saw this happen. Grinding the roots below the concrete walkway is the only option to leveling the concrete walkway.

Concrete Driveway Philadelphia

Concrete Driveways in Philadelphia take a beating.  Concrete in Philadelphia expands, contracts and also moves because of the weight of vehicles. Its important to reinforce the concrete with steel or to entrain the concrete with fiber. Thickness should be a minimum of 5".

Basement Waterproofing tips

Many waterproofing contractors want to sell an expensive system. At Dependable Concrete, we first encourage the customer to repair the problem from the outside first.   It could be a simple re-routing or repair to a down spout.    The cost of a waterproof system that requires the installation of a sump pump is at minimum $4,000.  However, if installed correctly, a sump pump system will solve any water problem.  Later,  I will either post instructions or produce a video on how to do simple corrections to the perimeter of your foundation to reduce water penetration. Stay tuned.

Concrete steps Philadelphia

Philadelphia is unique because most homes have "bull-nose" steps.  If you look at the steps in most other cities you will see squared steps.  The bull-nose design softens the edging of the concrete which offers an improved look to the already boring look of plain concrete.  If done right Bull-nose steps can enhance the look of your staircase.

Concrete Walkway Philadelphia

Concrete walkway should be 4" thick with a minimum of 3000psi concrete. Their should be a base of  crushed stone.  If there is an already existent sufficient stone base, then it's best to leave it undisturbed.  If disturbed, then compaction is necessary before pouring the concrete walkway.

Resurfacing concrete steps or walkway from salt and ice

Resurfacing concrete steps or concrete walkway.  Salt and ice is not friendly to concrete, especially new concrete. I use a product called "Renew" that restores the surface of all concrete after salt damage has occurred.  The surface looks new if the resurfacing job is done right. I use a reliable product called "Renew" from a company named Thoro-System Waterproofing in Folcroft Pa. These guys are really cool to work with.  If you have any questions then goto my website at www.dependableconcrete.com to see how I repair steps.

Check out this video of step job that I completed with using a re-surfacing cement that I personally formulated.  My cement performed well,  but when I would delegate this responsibility to my workers, well, consistency became an issue. Therefore I began using "renew" from Thoro-System.
Resurfacing concrete steps became less risky and elevated my confidence that I could deliver on my promises.

In this video I used a penetrable stain over my special formulated resurfacing cement.  The stain greatly helps to protect the overlay.
